Chinese new year celebrations

It was chinese new year celebrations over the last weekend, and I got a total of $150 from the ang baos. The first day of celebrations always start with my neighbours coming over to exchange mandarin oranges and giving ang baos. After that, we will go to my grandma's(my father's side) house for a lunch, and dinner will be held at my house, with my uncles and po-po(my mother's side) coming over. Every Chinese new year, when my uncles and popo come over to my house, we will always gamble a bit.

The game is played with poker cards, everyone will put $2 in the middle of the table first, then everyone will get three cards, picture cards count as 0, add up all the number cards and that's your number (but the tens does not count, eg. you get 21 by adding up the numbers, take away the tens, and you are left with 1, the smallest number) The biggest is three picture cards, second biggest is 10.

The first day I lost a total of $12, having won $20 plus at first, but as more people joined in, my luck starts to lose out. Still, no worry, there is always a part 2 at my po-po's house at the second day of every chinese new year. Wanting to get my loss back, I wore the underwear with the colour green, which is said to be a lucky colour for all borned in the year of monkey, while my uncles wore red underwears. After lunch (plazas and KFC), it's gamble time again, and I earned my loss back and earned $8, having got three picture cards in a round which everyone putted in $4. I realised some of my friends have to go to malaysia to visit family members there, so there's some laws of malaysia that I think you should know or you might get fined on chinese new year.

1. Don't wear mini-skirts

I heard the news saying that a certain state in malaysia bans the people from wearing mini-skirts, I don't know what for, but still, be careful or you might get fined or jailed on chinese new year.

2. Don't cycle without wearing shoes

I read from the newspaper that people in malaysia gets fined for cycling without shoes.

3. If you forgot the number for a fast food delivery, and you are expecting to see the commercial on TV, forget it.

The Malaysia government is considering to ban fast food commercials, as more and more people are becoming overweight in malaysia, but I think other than fast food, there is much more other things than can cause people to be overweight. Maybe they can consider making everyone in malaysia vegetarians.

Happy Chinese New Year!

There was celebrations for chinese new year in school today, so it was a half-day for everyone. In the morning, there was classroom decorations competition, but I think we had little chance of winning (and I was right), and after recess there was a concert in the hall.

The concert started off with a Lion dance performance, I must say the performers did very well, though there's a few times that they fell down, but it's not easy doing all this. Then there was the cultural quiz, which is a "confirm have" thing every year. Yes, I understand it is for people to understand other's culture better, but seriously, who will listen to the quiz and remember the answers? After the quiz, there was fashion parade and performance by the last year Kranji Idol. I must say he did a very good job with the chinese song, "Kiss Goodbye" , it is not easy to remember lyrics of another language (he's a malay). He did a good job with the english song "Here Without You" too.

After that there was the performances by the Hu He Hao Te City Inner Mongolian Dance Troupe. There was good performance too, lots of dances and some singing and Instrumental performance. I remember two of the dances most clearly, one of it is to show the excitment and happiness of a young man when he got a new boots. I wonder if they really do that when they got a new boots. Maybe when I got a new pair of shoes next time, I'll do all the playing around with my boots and the dance, but I think my parents will think I'm mad. Another one was the one when the female dancers were swinging their arms around like "ah Lians" going for a gang fight.

Then there was prize giving ceremony and special performance by teachers. Miss Tang and Miss loh sang the song "今天你要嫁给我" by David Tao and Jolin Tsai and Mr Sim sang "孤單北半球" by Ocean Ou De Yang. Mr Loh performed magic, and giving away two $2 Ang Baos to two students. There's also performance by a lady, I don't who she is, but her singing is quite good.

Finally there was a good performances by the Kranji Band to end the concert. After the Concert I went to Lot one to have lunch with my friends before playing soccer. We played soccer at the shelter near the HDB flats (I know it's wrong to play soccer there, as we might dirty the walls or hit someone, but there was no where else to play and at least we stop playing whenever someone is passing by).

While we were playing soccer, a malay student in a blue JC uniform came over to us and told us he's a police and wanted us to stop playing and leave. Refusing to believe someone who's smoking in school uniform, We asked for the identity card that every police have, and he actually showed us a NPCC card with his photo and the NPCC pledge at the side. If that makes him a police, then that makes me a police too. So I must have the right to arrest him for bringing disgrace to his school by smoking while in the school uniform.

We continued on with our game and the police didn't appear after one hour, after that guy threatened to call the police. On our way to buy drinks, we saw that "police" playing soccer with his friends at the void deck. I must say his trickto get us away from the shelter is really far too stupid for someone who can make it into a JC.

An unlucky week

I don't know what happened but I seem to have a lot of trouble for this week. Monday, I was walking home with some friends when we reached a row of drains. I saw the drains and also noticed that there was covers over them, so without any worry, I just step onto the drains while talking with my friends, however, I didn't stepped onto the covers, but instead stepped on air. And so I fell and landed on my two knees. Feeling quite alright, as I was wearing long pants, I continued my journey back home, only to realise there's a small cut on my right knee and huge blue-black mark on my left knee and also a huge swollen part below my left knee. Luckily, it heals rather quickly.

On tuesday, I was on a lookout for drains on my way home, as I think I will scream if I fell down on my knees again. When I was reaching the Choa Chu Kang bus interchange, I was crossing the zebra crossing with a few other people in front of me, and as I stepped onto the other side of the road, the damn driver horned me. I turned around and as I wasn't wearing my spectacles, I'm not sure if the driver was staring at me because his car moved away only after a while when I turned around.

If I'm the driver, maybe if the person is moving at a very slow speed, I will horn that person and wake him up, but I'm sure I was moving at a pace that's fast enough at that time and what's the point of horning someone who already had crossed the road.

On Thursday, when I was happily taking my books to the "new" lockers, and opening the "new" padlock, I realised that I can't open it. The password given to me had the last number as 0, and I thought that was unique when I first got the number. So after having some of my friends tried to open the padlock, I had no chioce but to call the vendors who's still renting lockers at the first floor, to come up and help me open the padlock. After several trys, she had to call someone else to ask for the password only to realise that they have got all the passwords wrong.

Hopefully the Ang Baos that I'm gonna get on chinese new year can help me with the luck that I'm dealing with now.

P/S: Sorry for not updating for so long, it's been quite a busy week. I noticed the video in my previous post is removed again, but I change it to another one and it's watchable again.

Close-minded people and "cold" people

This is why the singaporean author Neil Humphreys said some singaporean lacks a sense of humour. I admit I made this post after being irritated when the video I putted up in my previous post is made unavailable. When I try to search for another version of the video, I read several comments on the video and quite a number of people said this is racism, calling one another bitches and everything else, but I seriously think this bunch of people who thinks this video should be banned, should just shut their mouth and migrate to other countries as we seriouly don't need this "takes everything seriously" idiots in Singapore.

Yes, we shouldn't be disturbing people like that, as if I remember correctly, the word "babi" (pig in malay) is kind of sensitive for Muslims. Still, it's a funny video and I don't really sense much of racism in it. Some guy even posted a comment on the forum in The Straits Time, I really don't think it's that serious. It's time this bunch of idiots learn how to understand some jokes. Fortunately, after my attempt to find another version of the video failed, my sister found it again, so I must say thanks to my sister and the genius who posted the video again. Bad news for those who didn't liked the video, because there's always people who's clever than you.

Other than having a video I posted in my blog made unavailable, I also notice a trend in my school, which is Jackets. Yes, I must say in this week it's kind of cold at night and in the morning, but people are wearing jackets even in the afternoon when I start to feel hot. Since jackets had already became a trend in school, can I suggest a several possiblities that can become a trend too.

Since it's cold even in afternoons, then it must be very cold! So why not try out this super thick jackets?

2.

How about life jackets? They are also jackets!

3.

How about bringing blankets to school and bury yourself in it during boring lessons, how about that?

I don't know if the idea of wearing jackets all the time looks cool to people, but to me, it's cool only when used in correct conditions.
