Orientation week in Anderson JC

I don't know why, but I always seems like I have this connection with people of the name Susan. As some of you may know, my maths teacher(or class mentor) in Kranji was Miss Susan Leong, and now my principal in AJC is also called Miss Susan Leong. And people doesn't seems to like her much too.

She was addressing the whole during morning assembly when she said she was very glad to see the JC1s in the Anderson uniform and one of the Orientation Group Leaders (OGL) smirked and said "Ya right" . Some other OGLs laughed and the teachers standing right behind him didn't care about what he just said. I found it funny because the principal was there addressing the whole school so seriously but she didn't know she was being made fun of by the students. This somehow reminds me of Kranji (if you know what I mean haha!).

We also learnt all the mass dances of AJC, and to be honest, the dances can't be compare to Kranji's mass dances. They are of different class. I must say I enjoyed mass dances in Kranji much more than I enjoyed the mass dances in AJC. My seniors from Kranji who are in the school now thought so too. Now that shows how cool Kranji is.

And I seriously think it's cool that Kranji let us learn Folk Dance and let us experience holding the hands of the opposite sex. Because there's a couple dance in AJC too, and some of the boys are behaving like how boys behave when they're still secondary 1. They whine about holding the hands of a girl. I didn't want to hold the hands of a boy because it feels extremely weird, and luckily my OGL helped pair me up with a girl in my class. Her name's Benita and she has only been to girls schools for the past ten years. When my sister heard about it she joked about how I took away her "virgin touch".

My class has 18 girls and only 4 boys (including me) Which was like the situation in 2A, but 2A got along pretty well, so let's hope my class gets along well too. During orientation I was called to a Lecture Threatre and I was asked if I'm sure I want to take the H1 Chinese, which they say was like a repeat of Higher Chinese. The teacher was shocked to see that I got an A2 in Higher Chinese and still want to take H1 Chinese. The teacher expressed her shock when she said, "he got 2 leh" into the mike.

And the rest of the people in the Lecture Room started talking among themselves and people looked over in my direction which I suspect was their attempt to take a clear look at this guy whom they thought was weird. Then my classmates started questioning me and trying to tell me not to take the H1 chinese because it could be a waste of time. But I still decided to take the H1 Chinese, because I want to study Chinese, but H2 Chinese with literature wasn't my type and I believe H1 Chinese can still improve my chinese because my chinese definitely isn't the best.

When I answered the teacher that I'm sure about taking H1 Chinese, the people in the front row expressed their shock by turning around and looking at me with eyes wide open. And on my way back to the Hall for the following activities some girls from other class came and told me not to take the H1 Chinese. But I thanked them and said I'll consider about it again. Alright I lied.

A friend of a girl in my class asked me why does Kranjians looked like Ah Lian and Ah Bengs with me as an exception. Students in Anderson mostly speak english more than chinese and I think Kranjians (or students from schools in the West) may be the only ones who speak more chinese. I admit I'm not comfortable with this fact. The girl later changed her comment to Kranjians all looked like cool people, and I answered her that "Kranjians are cool people but they are not bad people".

Well, if most students speaks only english most of the time, it means I may have an advantage during Chinese lessons, which I must admit I sometimes enjoy. It's sad how some people don't speak Chinese or even hates Chinese.

I'm in Scorpius house, which was a temporary name for the house (it will later be changed to Puma), it's colour is green, but I was hoping to be in the yellow house because then I'll be in yellow house for all my years in school. (Jupiter in Teck whye, Kestrel in Kranji). Scorpius won the Annual Drama Competition which I thought may be interesting, because it's fun to watch dramatic people.

Then there's Soccer training three times a week because of the competiton season and it was last week when Anderson beat Nan Yang JC. It was the first match of the competiton and the Scores's 3-0, but of course I didn't play because the JC2s were definitely better, but the coach wants the rest of us to prove we are worthy of a place in the starting Line-up during trainings.

To be continued...
